Artist Focus: ANDREA WILLIS

RANGE: ENGLISH PRAIRIE

Born in Yorkshire; based in Scarborough, working in Whitby.

Specialising in Handmade cards, Andrea made the leap into being published when Creatives Inc walked into her shop and said ‘we want all of these’.

A recent interview for progressive Greetings magazine she voices her inspiration; “I decided to create a very British look within my work because, I am proud to be British. In these hard economic times, people are   looking more towards all things British including seaside holidays. Living in Scarborough, I know first hand what the British seaside has to offer, creating wonderful times and great memories, and I wanted to reflect this in my designs.

I captured my images for my nautical ranges through colour, focusing on red white and blue. In my eyes a typical British image is buckets and spades, sandcastles with a mini union jack flying on top, ice creams, lighthouses and beach huts.

 

We have fantastic multicoloured beach huts here in Scarborough which add instant colour to our beach! I also worked for my parents for 15 years on their farm so I have a love and feel for the country which is also influences my work.

Working at the shop constantly inspires me and enables me to keep on top of the current trends and keep my ideas for new ranges flowing!”

Artist focus: MICHELLE ROMO

RANGE: CROWDED TEETH

Born and raised in Southern California

Michelle is a self-taught illustrator and designer who is fuelled by cookies and naps.

She got her first computer when she was 16 and she hasn't stopped working since. Her influences include Mid-Century, Japanese, and Scandinavian design and pretty much anything cute.

Michelle created her line, Crowded Teeth, in 2004 and continues to create characters and products under that name, designing her brand into socks, t-shirts, bags & earrings for cool labels such as Lounge fly and Hello Kitty.

Publisher Creatives Inc spotted her hanging out on the internet and she amazingly hadn’t already been published in greetings card format. They snapped her up and she is now one of their [and our] best selling card artists.

She currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband Jason whose beard she has tattooed onto the inside of her arm [pictured], and their two cats, Hurts and Morgan. When she isn't working she spends her time eating good food, hugging her friends, playing video games, and crafting.

 

She is also features in 2 new books in addition to being out & about in the LA scene.
